June 20 (Bloomberg) -- Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, talks about economic reports released today including jobless claims for the week ended June 15, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia's general economic index and existing home sales for May.
Jobless claims climbed by 18,000 to 354,000 from a revised 336,000 in the prior period, the Labor Department reported today in Washington. The Philly Fed index climbed to 12.5, the highest since April 2011. Purchases of existing houses rose 4.2 percent to an annualized rate of 5.18 million from 4.97 million in April, the National Association of Realtors figures showed today. (Source: Bloomberg)
