eBay Sellers Seek Profit from VT Tragedy
Posted by: Stephen Wildstrom on April 18, 2007
No tragedy is too awful, no heartbreak too great to stop two great forces in American life, trial lawyers and eBay sellers, from cashing in. So it shouldn’t come as any surprise to find eBay seller mbradley005 offering virginiatechlawsuits.com and a half dozen similar similar domain names for a starting bid of $400,000. The seller is a tiny bit apologetic about even offering such an item, but says “Lawyers will jump on this thing real quick” and promises to donate an unspecified share of the proceeds to a memorial fund.
Several other sellers are also offering domain Virginia Tech-related domain names, though at much more modest prices.

UPDATE (4/19/07)
The eBay taste police seem to have caught up with this offering. As of Thursday morning, it and a number of other Virginia Tech-related domain name auctions had been removed.
