Automattic Raised $1.1M Last October

Justin Hibbard

There's a lot of blogiating (blog + bloviate = blogiate) today about a first round of funding for Automattic, a San Francisco-based blogging startup. The 22-year-old founder, Matt Mullenweg, wrote in December that the company wasn't seeking funding. Whatever. The investors are Polaris Ventures, Blacksmith Capital, Radar Partners, and CNET (details here). The amount wasn't disclosed. For the record (I love saying that--what record?), Automattic began raising a $1.25 million round late last year and had sold $1.1 million in series A stock to two accredited investors in California as of Oct. 12, according to this filing.
