Rather than focusing on who invented what, Henry Blodget did some number crunching on what the new YouTube ads could bring in. Speculative, but more interesting than the other debate and given all the smart heads online who can contribute, a good way to try to get at these kinds of estimates.
One way not to get the estimate right is to add too many zeros, as Blodget points out that Mary Meeker’s shop at Morgan Stanley seems to have done. Maybe because of a misunderstanding by someone crunching the numbers, rather than adding $4.8 billion to Google’s gross revenue and $720 million of net revenue, Blodget estimates that Meeker’s estimate would be more like $4.8 million and $720,000.
Huh.
Ouch!
