Apple Resellers Advised That Shortages Are Coming

Posted by: Arik Hesseldahl on July 30

Appleinsider is reporting a rumor that Apple resellers are are being warned that product shortages are to expected in the coming weeks in advance of big product refreshes. The warning was specific regarding certain iPod and MacBook models. They’ve been advised to stock for with about four weeks’ worth of whatever iPods are selling best, and three weeks’s worth of 13- 15- and 17-inch MacBooks.

If true, that would tell me that a refresh is coming not only to one or more parts of the MacBook line, which is pretty much what I argued in my column on Monday. But it would contradict one part of the refresh that I thought was less likely: An iPod upgrade. It seemed to me a little soon since the upgrade to the “little fatty” model on the nano, which is last I checked the best-selling model of iPod. Maybe I was wrong on that note, we’ll see. However it sure looks like all the signs are in place for a big, long-overdue refresh on the MacBook front by September.
