It is not unusual for a successful small business owner to lose track of the need to ask questions and listen to others. Being on stage often, holding court among clients or staff, or being applauded by one’s community can unconsciously flip someone’s switch from "receive" to "transmit." Over time, such charisma-on-overdrive tends to silence others—which then isolates the small business owner from possibilities and solutions generated by others. As coach Allen Burke says, "Listening is the greatest form of communication." If your organization is achieving good results as it is, just imagine what you could accomplish by asking, listening, and staying silent more often.
