Microsoft: European Fine Is "Not Appropriate"

Microsoft (MSFT) believes a ??280.5 million fine imposed against it by the European Commission is not appropriate given the lack of clarity in the EC's original decision, and Microsoft's good-faith efforts over the past two years.

Infosys Technologies (INFY) posts 62 cents vs. 43 cents first quarter EPS on a 39% revenue rise. It sees 64 cents to 65 cents second quarter EPS and $2.70-$2.73 in fiscal year 2007.

Gannett (GCI) posts $1.31 vs. $1.34 second quarter EPS from continuing operations on a 6.1% revenue rise.

Genzyme (GENZ) posted 49 cents vs. 46 cents second quarter GAAP EPS on a 19% sales rise, citing growth across all major products. S&P maintains buy.

Brunswick (BC) sees second quarter EPS (excluding tax-related benefits) of 93 cents to 94 cents, the middle of its previous guidance. The company cut its 2006 EPS from continuing operations guidance to $2.40-$2.55. S&P reiterates hold.

Monster Worldwide (MNST) While an internal review of its stock option grants is in the early stages, Monster believes it may need to restate its financial statements for 2005 and prior years to record additional charges for stock-based compensation expense.

Campbell Soup (CPB) is to sell its UK and Irish businesses to Premier Foods plc for $845 million cash.

Secure Computing (SCUR) cut its $43 million to $45 million second quarter revenue guidance to $38.5 million to $39 million; it sees 5 cents to 6 cents non-GAAP EPS prior to tax valuation allowance reversal vs. prior guidance of 10 cents to 12 cents. The company plans to buy CipherTrust.
