SEC Investigates UnitedHealth's Stock Options


UnitedHealth Group (UNH) says the Securities and Exchange Commission is conducting informal inquiry into the company's stock option granting practices.

American International Group (AIG) posts $1.22 vs. $1.45 first quarter EPS despite a 4.3% rise in net premiums written.

News Corp (NWS.A) posts 27 cents vs. 14 cents third quarter EPS on a 2.6% revenue rise.

Viacom (VIA.B) posts 43 cents vs. 43 cents first quarter earnings per share (EPS) from continuing operations, as higher interest expense offset a 12% revenue rise. It is confident it will meet 2006 goals.

Sapient (SAPE) announces that CFO Scott Krenz has stepped down, and Susan Cooke, sr. v.p., will immediately assume responsibilities.

Echostar Communications (DISH) posts 33 cents vs. 70 cents first quarter EPS as charges related to early redemption of debt securities and TIVO litigation offset a 13% revenue rise.

GTSI GTSI Says it discovered that its May 9 announcement of financial results understated unaudited sales by $6.1 million and under reported income by $871,000 or 7 cents a share.

J.C. Penney (JCP) posts 90 cents vs. 62 cents first quarter EPS from continuing operations on 1.3% higher same-store sales. It expects second quarter EPS to be in the area of 60 cents and same-store sales in the low-single digits.

Borland Software (BORL) sees $69 million first quarter revenue, and smaller net loss than that reported in the previous quarter. It expects to increase revenue sequentially in the second quarter, and to continue with its cost containment efforts throughout the year.

Cendant (CD) files to spin off its hospitality unit.

UTStarcom (UTSI) Says chairman and CEO Hong Lu notified the board of his resignation; he will remain in those positions until 12/31/06.

iVillage (IVIL) posts 4 cents first quarter loss vs. 2 cents loss despite a 25% revenue rise.

Cogent Communications Group (CCOI) posts 38 cents first quarter loss vs. 96 cents loss as gain on asset disposal offset flat service revenue. It sees 35 cents to 40 cents second quarter loss. It is to sell 12 million shares in a public offering; 4 million shares are to be sold by the company and 8 million by selling stockholders.

Keane (KEA) says Brian Keane will step down as president and CEO. While Mr. Keane has denied employee allegations of unlawful behavior, he and the board agreed that the best interests of Keane would be served by him stepping down.

Carolina Group (CG) Loews (LTR) is to sell 15 million shares of its Carolina Group stock in a public offering.

Cosi (COSI) posts 10 cents first quarter loss vs. 9 cents loss despite a 9% revenue rise. It maintains 6 cents to 11 cents 2006 EPS guidance, excluding stock compensation expense.

Movie Gallery (MOVI) posts $1.27 vs. 58 cents first quarter EPS on a sharp revenue rise.

Sterling Construction (STRL) posts 27 cents vs. 6 cents first quarter EPS from continuing operations on a 43% revenue rise.
