Spammer lands on 73,000

Just did a Google search on the latest piece of comment spam to land in our box. It landed on 73,000 blogs. Do you think anyone clicks a mortgage ad that pops up in comments?

Unfortunately when they're doing 73,000+ spams they are going to get some results both in terms of click throughs but also SEO benefits. While some will have no follow tags, others will delete them - many others will not.

It sucks.

When the spamming gets up around 100,000 blogs it might also be a competitor trying to whack the competition's site.

In my blog sidebar, under "Comment Spam Defeated", with a nice graphic of a can of real Spam, the meat...

I tell readers to *never* click on any link in any blog comment.

Blogger's comment moderation w/delayed posting is the ideal solution to preventing comment spam. I don't see any decline in comment quantities.

My readers are savvy enough to be 29% Firefox users, so they don't mind moderation apparently.

That number of comment postings sounds like it has been done by some automation software. I guess the word verification check on blogs should help stop this.
