Plazes: Time and Space Online
I followed Anthony Townsend's example and started playing around with Plazes. This is sort of a mix of social networking and mapping--but for people. It works like this: you and lots of other people create plazes (basically a little bit of text describing a real place, such as your office, your school, a favorite restaurant.) Those plazes are used by people to find each other.
Ilike the idea, and apparently, I am not alone. Around 10,000 people use the service, among them Ross Mayfield who used Plazes to help organize Bar Camp, the alternative get get together to Foocamp.
So, yes, I like it, but it also puzzles me. I am not really going to use this to meet total strangers. I mean, at least with this, you can ease the awkwardness by talking about what you plazed. But that's not for me. And I wonder if its for anyone over 30, except the truly geeky who are enamormed with the technology itself.

Well I'm 58 and use it :-) Guess that mean's I'm a geek. I found it useful after Reboot. I could see that some of the people I met where still in Copenhagen, so we met up for dinner and drinks.

Or Geoff, it may be I haven't found the social networking site for myself yet!
