OJR and Katrina

Heather Green

OJR has a wiki with a good list of links on Katrina. Metroblogging New Orleans has some good links too. (Via Trust but Verify)

UPDATE: From comments, here's the I'm OK site, a potentially valuable resource for storm victims and their loved ones.

Another UPDATE:

Meetup.com has created http://hurricane.meetup.com for relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The company says that "Meetups have proven to be fundraising machines -- and the objective of Hurricane Meetups is to help people pool resources and raise money. Meetup has waived all fees for anyone organizing Hurricane Meetups."

Pass the word. Registry for survivors and friends and family searching for information.

"The search side of the site allows for a specific pinpoint search for a person by household rather than generic searches by city. All the search requires is the person?? telephone number from before the disaster. Family and friends searching for the same person can communicate with each other through the message board tied to that phone number." (from http://www.managementblog.org)

Katrina Missing Persons Message Board

Yesterday, I saw an e-mail on our internal Labs e-mail list about an idea to create a message board site for the Survivors of Hurricane Katrina. At the time, I thought what a great idea and went on about my daily work.

Today someone told me a small team of our technical staff had taken it upon themselves to turn that idea into a reality. In one of the most altruistic efforts I have seen in some time, EarthLink staff members produced Katrina.EarthLink.net.

If you are looking for someone and/or would like to let people know you are okay, visit this site. Please tell people about this site and link to it on your web sites and/or blogs.

Regards,

Travis Metcalf

I live in St.Louis, MO. I am desperately trying to locate my brother who moved to New Orleans about 3 or 4 months ago from Virginia.

His birth name is Larry Donnell Cox. He goes by the name of Lawrence Cox. He was born October 5, 1959, and is age 45.

Please help me to locate him, if anywhere on the internet as to where I can type in his name for survivor.

I will be forever grateful.
