July 25, 2004
The voice of labor
By reaching an agreement with its police and firefighter? unions, the city of Boston avoided the embarrassment of Democratic delegates as well as Senator John F. Kerry having to cross picket lines to attend convention events. But Democrats must still handle their union brothers with kid gloves. Volunteers stuffing thousands of goodie bags for journalists with maps and food freebies at a Saturday night media party were told they couldn? actually transport the bags around the hall.
