The Day After the Big Box Comes to Town

Posted by: Stacy Perman on July 10, 2008

After talking to filmmaker Hanson Hosein about the march of Big Box stores in post-Katrina New Orleans, I got to thinking. Obviously, the long-held belief is that when the Wal-Mart’s, the Barnes & Noble’s, and their ilk arrive, the independent stores soon disappear. That said, I’d like to put a human face on that equation. Let’s hear from you. Is this your story? What happened to your small, independent business after a big box came to town? Please send a post describing your situation. While we can’t address all of them, we will follow up on several of your stories in the coming weeks.
