Mississippi State Faces UCLA in NCAA College World Series Finals

Mississippi State University faces the University of California, Los Angeles in the national men’s college baseball championship best-of-three series starting June 24.

Mississippi State upset third-seeded Oregon State 4-1 yesterday and UCLA knocked out top-seeded North Carolina 4-1 to advance to the National Collegiate Athletic Association College World Series finals at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.

Hunter Renfroe blasted a three-run homer with two outs in the fifth inning as Mississippi State reached the CWS finals for the first time in school history. Mississippi State also is seeking its first national championship in any sport.

UCLA’s Pat Valaika hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to insure UCLA’s bid to reach the finals.

Grant Watson gave up four hits and struck out three batters in six innings for UCLA.

Kent Emanuel surrendered two runs on five hits while striking out seven in six innings for the Tar Heels.
