Tampa Bay Rays Promote Ex-Yankees Outfielder Matsui From Minors

The Tampa Bay Rays promoted former New York Yankees outfielder Hideki Matsui from Triple-A Durham, the team said on Twitter.

The Rays signed Matsui, 37, to a minor-league contract a month ago. He played for the Yankees from 2003-09, then one season each with the Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics. He has 173 home runs and batted .285 in the major leagues.

He was 2 for 11 in three games for Durham.
