Cell C (Pty) Ltd. plans to secure 25 percent of South Africa’s mobile phone market by acquiring customers from MTN Group Ltd. (MTN) and Vodacom Group Ltd. (VOD), Business Day reported, citing Alan Knott-Craig, the former chief executive officer of Vodacom who takes over as head of Cell C on April 1.
Cell C has about 13 percent of the South African market compared with 45 percent for Vodacom and MTN’s 40 percent, the Johannesburg-based newspaper reported. Due to market saturation, growing customer numbers was only possible by taking customers from competitors, it cited Knott-Craig as saying.
