The benchmark Taiex Index advanced 0.8 percent to 8,029.46. The gauge has risen 13.5 percent this year, poised for the best three-month performance since the quarter ended September 2009.
Powertech Technology Corp. (6239) (6239 TT) lost 2.2 percent to NT$58.20, the largest retreat since March 12. The chipmaker will recognize a NT$1.89 billion ($64 million) loss on impaired assets, according to an exchange statement yesterday.
Yuanta Financial Holding Co. (2885) (2885 TT) gained 1.6 percent to NT$16.25, the most since March 13. Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission approved unit Yuanta Commercial Bank’s application to set up a branch in Macau, according to a statement on FSC’s website.
