Top Seeds Baylor, Stanford Reach Women’s NCAA Regional Finals

Undefeated top-seeded Baylor University and No. 1 seed Stanford University advanced to the regional finals of the national women’s college basketball tournament.

Baylor won its 37th straight game of the season, defeating No. 4 seed Georgia Tech 83-68, and Stanford tallied its 31st consecutive victory with a 76-60 win over fifth-seeded South Carolina yesterday in National Collegiate Athletic Association regional semifinals.

In other games, No. 2 seed Tennessee topped No. 11 Kansas 84-73 and second-seeded Duke routed St. John’s 74-47.

Baylor (37-0) meets Tennessee (27-8) in the Des Moines regional final and Duke (27-5) plays Stanford (34-1) in the Fresno regional championship tomorrow.

In regional semifinals today, it is top-seeded Notre Dame and No. 5 seed St. Bonaventure, second-seeded Maryland and No. 3 seed Texas A&M, No. 1 seed Connecticut and fourth-seeded Penn State and second-seeded Kentucky and No. 11 seed Gonzaga. The winners will play for their regional championships March 27.

The semifinals will be held April 1 and the championship game is April 3 in Denver.
