UK’s Tesco Bidding to Buy Turkey’s CarrefourSA, Vatan Reports

February 28, 2012

Tesco Plc. (TSCO), the U.K.’s largest grocer, is interested in buying Turkish supermarket chain CarrefourSA Carrefour Sabanci Ticaret Merkezi AS (CARFA), Vatan newspaper reported without saying how it got the information.

CarrefourSA is majority owned by France’s Carrefour SA (CA), which would sell its stake to minority shareholder Haci Omer Sabanci Holding AS (SAHOL), Turkey’s second-biggest group of companies, before Sabanci then sold the full stake to Tesco and exited from the retail business, the Istanbul-based newspaper said.
