U.S. Stocks Fluctuate as Economic Data Offset Europe Optimsm

Jan. 12 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks were little changed as an increase in jobless claims and lower-than-forecast growth in retail sales overshadowed easing concern about Europe’s debt crisis.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index fluctuated between gains and losses near a five-month high of 1,292 as of 9:45 a.m. in New York.
