Peru Protests End Against Newmont Project, Regional Leader Says

Dec. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Peruvian villagers ended anti-mining protests against Newmont Mining Corp.’s $4.8 billion Minas Conga gold deposit and seek talks, a regional leader said.

The government should lift its state of emergency and unblock local government bank accounts, Gregorio Santos, president of the Cajamarca regional goverment, said in a letter released today by Cabinet Chief Oscar Valdes’ office.
