July 1 (Bloomberg) -- The following stocks may rise or fall in South Africa today. Symbols are in parentheses and prices are from the last close.
The FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index rose for a fifth day advancing 138.24, or 0.44 percent, to 31,864.54 at the 5 p.m. close in Johannesburg. The index retreated 2.2 percent last month.
AH-Vest Ltd. (AHL SJ): The food manufacturer reported a loss of 2.45 million rand ($362,000) for the year to March, from a profit of 1.15 million a year earlier. Shares were unchanged at 20 cents.
Mercantile Bank Holdings Ltd. (MTL SJ): The lender controlled by Portugal’s Caixa Geral de Depositos SA released a voluntary business update after arranging 50 million euros ($73 million) of funding from the World Bank’s International Finance Corp. At the market close, the bank also said it had received an unsolicited takeover offer from The Bidvest Group Ltd. The stock closed at its highest in a month, surging 5 cents, or 25 percent, to 25 cents.
Reunert Ltd. (RLO SJ): The maker of electric power cables and telecommunications equipment holds its annual general meeting. Shares closed 62 cents, or 1 percent lower, at 61.13 rand.
