Reliant Energy Curtails Output at Ormond Beach Station Unit 1

October 29, 2008

Reliant Energy Inc., a Houston-based power producer, curtailed about 70 percent of production at a California electricity generator.

The company's 741.3-megawatt Ormond Beach Generating Station Unit 1 had 516.3 megawatts idled as of 3:15 p.m. local time, the California Independent System Operator said today in a report on curtailed and non-operational generating units.

The natural-gas burning plant is located northwest of Los Angeles in Oxnard, California. One megawatt is enough to power about 800 U.S. homes.
