Lakshmi Narayanan has been president of Cognizant Technology Solutions since March, 1998, and its chief executive officer since December, 2003. Previously, Narayanan served as chief operating officer of Cognizant Technology Solutions from March, 1998, to December, 2003. He joined the Indian subsidiary of Cognizant Technology as chief technology officer in 1994 and was elected president of that subsidiary in January, 1996. From 1975 to 1994, Narayanan was regional head of Tata Consultancy Services. He has been director of Cognizant Technology since 2003. Narayanan holds bachelor's, master's, and MBA degrees from the Indian Institute of Science.
