Bill Keller Looks Remarkably Like What You'd Expect The Editor of the New York Times Should Look Like

Posted by: Administrator on October 10, 2005

I know, I know, his real title is “executive editor,” but the headline’s too long as it is.

I heard him speak at a marketing conference in Phoenix last Friday and an account can be found here. Unsurprisingly, he took some shots at bloggers and those who advocate journalism not founded on Times-ian notions of objectivity.

I doubt anyone from either camp was in the room to respond. Anyone care to now?

Given the fact that the NYT editorial page now reads like a talking points memo from the Democratic National committee, Keller has real nerve attacking the bloggers for being advocates.

The difference is that the bloggers admit and state their advocacy. Newspapers like the NYT, LAT, Boston Globe et.al, hide their advocacy by claiming to be "objective".

Keller's arrogance is stunning and disappointing. Keller and his counterparts take the position that only THEY are qualified to be the purveyors of news and information. Anyone who challenges them is denounced and discredited.

Sounds like vintage McCarthyism to me.

Mr Keller,
Your ARROGANCE is sickening. You are nothing more than a Bush-hating hyper-partisan -- You deem nothing sacred in your hatred for this Administration -- not even when it imperils national security! FYI: This was CLASSIFIED INFORMATION, and you had a "hard decision" on whether to publish it ???!!! Wake up! Pull you head out of your arrogant, hateful ass! The Country is at war!
