My War on Lou Dobbs

Your comment: 'big threat to our society is brown people sneaking into our country to mow our lawns and take care of our children.' is disingenuous and clever. Mr. Dobbs does not care about race, but about illegals breaking the law. They trivialize the law and lead to lower living standards. That is what is of concern.
Mexico's immigration laws are far more robust than america's. Mexico's law are what america's should be.

Junk like this doesn't merit a reply, but the fact that it's at a major magazine is a bit surprising.

1. Dobbs doesn't want to block all immigration from Latin America as stated.

2. There's much more to illegal immigration than just instances of people sneaking across the border. For instance, the political power the MexicanGovernment has been able to obtain inside the U.S., massive illegal immigration being an indicator of massive PoliticalCorruption, and so forth.

Come to think of it, BW did promote businesses profiting from illegal activity a while back, so junk like this isn't that surprising after all.

Over the years, I have been as outspoken a critic of the mainstream press as anyone. For one thing, the vast majority of mainstream media celebrities seem infatuated with liberal politicians. For example, popular news hosts are going gaga in the way they cover the presidential campaign of Senator Barak Obama. Of course, this is standard operating procedure for the majority of the mainstream media. Is it any wonder that so many people across America have serious disdain for America's major news makers?

Furthermore, if CNN is the "Clinton News Network," FOX News is the "Bush News Network." For instance, Sean Hannity is nothing more than a shill for Republicans in general and George W. Bush in particular. The same is true for Rush Limbaugh and countless other media dignitaries.

Genuinely objective reporting is almost nonexistent in today's mainstream media. They all seem to be little more than lap dogs for big-government media moguls, distracting the American public with incessant "news" coverage of Anna Nicole Smith and Britney Spears, while providing almost no coverage of the really important issues impacting America's future survival. Thank God, there is one exception: CNN's Lou Dobbs.

Day in and day out, Lou Dobbs dares to address the truly salient issues that most newsmen are either too ignorant or too afraid to address. For example, Dobbs is the one member of the mainstream press that is willing to not only address the subjects of illegal immigration, the erasure of our national borders, the loss of our national sovereignty, and the burgeoning North American Union, but he courageously tells the truth about it all.

Furthermore, among the national mainstream media, it has been Lou Dobbs, and only Lou Dobbs, that has been willing to challenge the Bush administration's pathetic capitulation to the Mexican government in prosecuting and imprisoning Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, while at the same time giving a confessed Mexican drug dealer amnesty so that he might testify against the agents.

I'm not sure how Lou Dobbs became the courageous champion that he is, or how it is that CNN lets him speak out as freely and forthrightly as he does, but I am sure glad he is on the air. His is a lone but powerful voice for truth amidst a cacophony of phony-baloney "news" reporting and downright propaganda.

If you want to get the "straight scoop" on the issues that are currently threatening America's national sovereignty and independence, Lou Dobbs is your man. Personally, I thank God for Lou Dobbs.

Well said. It's ironic that the progressive world today (mostly) still loves and apes America, but Americans themselves are besieged by self-doubt.

I happen to think that Lou Dobbs is right on the money.
The unbridled invasion from all points of the globe has many negative effects on our culture, resources and economy.
Globalization is good for the equity partners,corporations and government short term - but has devastating effects on jobs, our security and culture (society as a whole).
When you outsource manufacturing - you outsource and retire proprietary technology, loose basic and middle mgt jobs and geopolitical independence if not security.
How many industries do you plan to retire? Where will we work? Nope, I am not sold on globalization as implemented.

I, and many of friends and family are grateful to have someone of such prominence, and integrity who is making these weak politicians who have taken an oath to enforce our laws on illegal immigration, accountable for their constant inaction. We have got to discourage this illegal activity. Our country's resources are finite. Let's enforce our laws, and through attrition rather than another amnesty, we'll have a grasp on this illegal activity.

Lou Dobbs got his point clear, to keep the wages of middle class up compared to rest of world.

For a country which has its roots in capitalism, this happens only when the skill set of the middle class is better than that of the rest of the world. For this the middle class here (currently enjoying a clear economic and social advantage) has to take the initiative to improve their competitiveness.

If they close the borders, the investment from companies will flow into countries like China/India improving the skill set of people there. Look what's happening to India, the visa restrictions cause more smart people to stay back and start companies which compete with IBM etc!.

In short Lou Dobbs intention seems good but the way to do it is the most pathetic one I have seen.

Please consider that tariffs are one of the few CONSTITUTIONAL methods for the Fed govt to raise money. "Globalization" or "free" trade is shorthand for exporting taxpayer & shareholder subsidized US corporate profits rather than reinvestment into our communities & citizens.

Steve, I agree with you. But what do you think will it take to change this widespread Dobbsian protectionist mentality in Amercia? How we can we convince the Dobbisans out there to adopt a more "well-balanced globalization policy"-friendly mindset?

There is some truth to issues like Americans losing jobs to foreigners, reduction in consumer satisfaction, ever increasing expenses in living standards, growing inflation compare to the growth in salary. But this heat is not just for middle class. This is for everybody except the top 15%, whose house hold income more than $120K. Since most of Americans “used” to be in middle class, he took a theme which is appealing for his audience (War against Middle Class). But In my mind he is either confused or a typical hypocritical or maybe less informed to argue this is all due to Globalization or by the foreign workers. Well CNN gave him enough freedom to support his theories and spread enough hearted and worst of all his viewers are misinformed. Sometimes patriotism blinds the reality and we tend to forget the real roots of our today’s problems and started blame something else.

America excels in capitalism and one of the pioneers of globalization. Globalization/WTO helps the American businesses to enter the growing markets. Ask yourself a question, how many multi-national companies that can complete American businesses even today’s world in any major sector? No doubt a fresh completion is created by the globalization, but do u know how much percentage of patents are owned by fist world and second world compare to developing or under-developed countries?
More and More American companies are expanding their businesses in developing world. For some companies more than 50% revenues are coming from rest of the world and that number is still growing. This is healthy for American capitalistic society and to the American people. This also helps our businesses send more money in R&D compare to any country in the world, and that guarantees the edge in completion.

We all know Government is by the people and for the people and certainly Governments will try to protect their country’s interests for the benefit of their people. This happened in the past and will happen in future. And that’s why we have trade agreements and Lou never supports them. Remember Lou, there is “Give and Take”

I am very glad that globalization is helping the world by bettering the lives of poor people and that is healthy. IMHO, this is much better than charity work, since now they know how to catch the fish. Illegal immigration has been brought to the forefront due to 9/11. This has been going on for a while and nobody supports illegal immigration. However, making it the focus of a complete prime time discussion day after day is a waste of everyone's time. Moreover, Lou portrays a kind of hatred to everyone who is brown. Let us be aware that a large part of this country is brown and black.

Lou Dobbs: Now thats an interesting person. I wonder why he is so popular ? Lets analyze this:
1. He has very strong views about topics.
Thats no crime, actually its admirable. I think this is one of the reasons why Lou has such a large following.
2. Lous analysis/figures and approach. Now thats another story!!! Lou is NOT an economist, but talks like one; Lous research is sketchy at best and most of the figures he rambles off do not add up, but he talks like he knows whats going on; Lou takes a very extreme view of thing, and does not entertain or accept any other arguments.
I think that it is these very attributes that give him the large following:

The American middle class is well off ? The middle class's standard of living has been falling because more wealth has been accumulated by the top 5% of the country due to higher profit margins from globalization and offshoring. If you don't realize it by now, the folks in Washington are selling out our country right from underneath us with corporate dollars. You are absolutely right. Dobbs is dubious. As some one else has pointed out, he lives on a 200 acre lot in North Bergen country and all he does is cry about middle class as if he is the messiah of the middle class. No doubt he has all his money stashed in companies that make profits. When it comes to portfolio's ethics do not matter. When it comes to make money, he has to do that in the name of middle class Screw ethics here. John Miano, Bill Tucker and Kim Berry have made enough jokes about highly skilled immigration before the american public and painted the whole immigrants as fraudsters,tax evaders. bunch of losers. never ever get the other side (like compete america) on to the show for a debate.

Now, how is it "protectionist" to expect RECIPROCAL free trade agreements with countries such as China or India? These countries still limit access to their markets and still have anti-competitive practices such as artificially valuing their currency.

As for H1-Bs, someone claimed that H1-Bs pay taxes. Some do, some don't. Depends on how they're paid and where they're paid. But IF these guys are so terrific, how is it that immigration websites contain so many laments from them about how they can't move up because they're applying for a green card and their boss won't promote or pay them more. About how necessary it is for their wives to work.

Finally, regarding illegal immigration, most LEGAL immigration is already from Latin America and Asia, and is at record numbers--about 1 million a year. Now, just why is it acceptable for Latinos or anyone else (quite a few Irish and Polish illegals out there, too) to break OUR laws because it suits them? U.S. immigration policy is for the benefit of AMERICANS, or should be, not anyone who has the mistaken belief that he/she has a right to come here. Try immigrating to Mexico or India and see what hoops you have to jump through--and heaven forbid you try it illegally!

Folks this is capitalistic world. Every one including Lou Dubbs have an agenda. Lou's agenda is to increase his ratings and make better living for himself. When has he ever offered a better solution other than ranting? If he is so concerened, what is he doing about it other than spreading hatred and fear?
Standard of living in the US is better because it has vast amount of resources, hard working middle class and huge technological lead over other countries. In order to be competetive with rest of the world US needs to attract and keep talent. Why is it OK for US companies to market their products in other countries and make profit but not OK to produce/offshore to other cheaper countries?

What is needed is a meaningful reform that penalizes(for abusing the system) yet look at the issue in humanatirain perspective or reward(for being here legally and contributing to the economy). Just my opinion.

Lou Dobbs used to be one of my favorite CNN anchors and I just loved his style of broadcasting, serious, objective, analytical, sharp questioning, fact-based reasoning, etc., etc.. However I have been really disappointed since he has become such an emotional extremist that he virtually complains EVERYTHING on EVERYBODY else for whatever he is not happy with and for whatever his reasons are. He is no longer reporting as an objective journalist but an extreme voice of political propaganda, which I only see it from such as Bill O'Reilly.

We live in a world today full of new challenges and new issues we have never faced before such as globalization, free trade, conflicts of civilization, China/India rising, etc.. It just won't resolve the nation's problems by spreading fear and complaining everything on everybody else with extreme propositions.

I'm sure Lou Dobbs inherited this 200-acre estate from his forefathers who were born and raised right here in the US of A, as opposed to everyone else whose forefathers emigrated from somewhere else? Lou's forefathers were American Indians who built this whole place with their own hands.

How can that person bear to be a descendant of an immigrant? I'm sure he's mowing his own lawn on weekends - how can he hire help from those with brown skin?

In every field you have to compete to win. We Americans would be better served to spend billions that we are not wasting in Iraq on education to let our kids compete with the rest of the world. Cheap foreign labor as Mr. Dobbs loves to say on TV for his viewers is not to blame. Don't you and I love to buy a quality product for a cheap price whether it is Made in USA or anywhere else. Why not quality labor at a lower labor rate if it is from elsewhere. We would not have our kids drop out of schools and work at McDonalds and the like, If they were to receive help financially to get their degrees. Spend money on education - period. Our kids would continue to do wonders.

The assumption that the working-class is not part of, or all of, the middle-class raises an eyebrow, but that the middle-class "is pretty well off" is a personal opinion more related to the author's current financial standing than to the bare facts facing the U.S. economy - which is buried in debt and likely suffering hyperinflation as well. Those who didn't buy into the booming housing market, through a mortgage, sold off their home equity to finance their profligate consumption, now the market is collapsing slowly and even those in the upper middle-class are getting squeezed. All-in-all a sad indictment of the folly of a consumption and debt-driven capitalist system. It'll all come out in the wash when only the super-elite will be able to afford survival in the coming supply crash - the cliff's edge is clearly in sight now.

Lou Dobbs may be an extreme protectionist, but globalization is also an untamed beast that may one day trample and flatten the whole world under its feet.

Economists and business people tend to think only in terms of wealth, trade, and politics. The unbridled capitalism/globalization encourage people to consume as much as possible and suppliers to produce as much as they can through the exploitation of technology, cheap labor, and worst of all, huge amount of natural resources.

Today we are destroying the natural environment at an unprecedented scale so that we can buy more unnecessary stuff at lower prices. But we are completely ignoring the high environmental prices we will certainly pay in the near future.

People stand in long lines over night outside Walmart to grab that Black Friday bargain $50 TV set when they already have three at home. Nobody even thinks twice about how many rain forests have to disappear in order to provide us with the cheap furnitures from China. Who actually understands what that TV and sofa really cost? Who will add the price of destroyed homes from hurricanes and skyrocketed food prices due to Global Warming on top of their great bargains?

People in the business and economic field need to take a different view in the face of looming disasters. It should no longer be just about cheap manufacturing from China or low cost programmers from India or the profit margins of businesses.

I don't care for Lou Dobbs' xenophobic and fear mongering views, but I do hope that we do take a moment to think about what we are doing, and maybe come to realize that economies cannot grow forever, and maybe a slow down is probably a good thing for the whole world. I know it's a radical idea for business folks like yourself. The combination of modern method of production + cheap foreign labor + exploitation(and destruction) of the environment is what the business world calls globalization. It is not a sustainable model of development.

Steve, the key to Offshoring jobs is the "Tax Loophole" that basically allow a company to hire an employee to support Operations in the USA without having to pay for the Payroll Taxes. As long as this loophole stays open, you will find that companies will be forced to Outsourced Offshore as many jobs as they can!!

Many companies now are creating development centers Offshore in India to support their own Operations in the USA. By doing this, the company can replace the cost of the employee in the USA with the cost of the employee in India. Sound like a great deal for business, but it’s not such a great deal if you’re one of those Americans that has been replaced.

With the massive growth of “NEW” jobs in India to support operations back in the USA, all I can think of is…. who is going to pay for our Social Security, Medicare, Federal Tax and local income taxes? Those new jobs in India were promised to be the new jobs created here in the USA. Also, with the profits from the saving thanks to Offshoring jobs, the companies are investing in infrastructure and R&D Offshore, not here in the USA.

It seem the main incentive and attraction to Outsource jobs Offshore to places like India is the combination of low salaries and the avoidance of Payroll Taxes here in the USA.

Funny, if you Outsource a job out of New York City to North Carolina, the employee in NC has to pay Federal, State, Social Security and Medicare tax……But…if the assignment is Outsourced to India to support Operations in New York City, the companies avoids all Payroll Taxes in the USA.

This practice of replacing workers in the USA with workers Offshore in order to save money by avoiding the payment of taxes in the USA is going to be an issue for the 2008 elections.

We cannot expect to Offshore as many Jobs as we can without it having a profound effect on our economy and the Middle Class. Remember folks it’s those salaries that employees earn in the USA that pump our economy.

The only fair and quick solution to help recoup the lost tax revenues is to impose a "Sales Tax" on any Service that is supporting Operations in the USA from an Offshore location….It’s only fair!

Look at Halliburton,It shifted from Texas to Gulf region. Only Highly skilled immigrnats can carry the Middle class and help them keep their current economic status. Dobbs, dubbed “the Dan Rather of financial journalism” by Daniel Griswold, director of the Cato Institute’s Center for Trade Policy Studies, has roused numerous critics with his skewed view of the news. But what’s more, opponents argue that one of the foremost names in TV business news is often simply wrong. As a result, his viewers are missing the real story behind free trade.

The Media Research Center’s Business & Media Institute studied 69 news reports from 86 broadcasts of “Lou Dobbs Tonight” between March 1 and June 30, 2005. The stories chosen for the study focused on free trade and outsourcing. The findings were staggering. Dobbs disregarded economic fundamentals on a daily basis.

Steve's point is very well-taken that fear and hatred have no place in business analysis. Take out the emotion and there are only two economic facts left about illegal immigration: (1) People will always emigrate in any way possible from poorer to richer countries, and (2) if you could magically zap every UDA and send them back to their countries, this country's economy would grind to a halt. There is not a single American whose way of life is not supported in some way by an illegal immigrant. That's not a "pro" or "con" argument, just a lonely fact. Deal with it; they aren't going away and there are many industrial interests in this country who will make sure they don't.

Another instance of outsourcing dread came from the March 29, broadcast. Dobbs led off a Bill Tucker report: “Delta Airlines today became the latest carrier to outsource its maintenance work to another country. That's right, foreign citizens will soon be performing maintenance on aircraft flown in the United States by a U.S. air carrier. Delta Airlines says the move will costs as many as 2,000 Americans their jobs.”

Tucker described how Delta Airlines was “going north of the border in search of cheaper labor” by outsourcing maintenance work to a Canadian company. Tucker then obtained union spin from Linda Goodrich, vice president of the FAA Inspectors Union. She told Tucker, “The best way to describe it – and I don't want to be sensational, but we believe right now they are playing Russian roulette with the public's safety dealing with aviation safety.”

While Tucker did admit that “outsourcing its maintenance work is expected to save Delta $240 million,” he left out an important piece of Delta’s history with outsourcing. According to the October 2004 edition of Business Solutions magazine: “Delta came under scrutiny for outsourcing a 1,000-seat call center to India. However, the move saved the airline more than $23 million in 2003 and allowed for the creation of 1,200 new jobs in Delta's U.S.-based reservations and sales team – a net gain of 200 American jobs.”

It's nice to see CEOs come to BW's website and post as bloggers to hammer Dobbs. Sorry, but the majority of Americans realize that something is up w/ "free" trade. The game's over.....

What the heck. If you're really a concerned American just do the following:

1. Stop your crazed consumption habits. Keep what you have until it absolutely cannot be used anymore. I'm referring to cars, clothes, appliances, electronics, etc. Every time you buy one of those things 90% of your money leaves the country, anyway.

2. Buy local. Shop at the local produce store. With the money saved from lowered consumption spend the extra dollars for (more expensive)locally-produced clothes, food, etc.

3. Live simply. Don't kill yourself trying to keep up with the neighbors. The more you earn the less percentage of it you get to keep for yourself. It's a waste of your time and just enriches the oligarchs of globalization.

4. Research the records of the politicians who are asking for your vote, and choose accordingly. At this point in time the dire economic straits of this country is more important than "culture war" politics.

And finally, good luck to you in the coming depression. May you be able to keep your children housed and fed. Maybe after a really nasty one this country will finally wake up.

Because of Lou Dobbs, I stopped watching CNN anymore. Instead I watch MSNBC because it is more balanced and does not have an anchor who is an extremist. I also got a dozen of my friends to switch to MSNBC as well.

"The idea", that we the middle class can trust your reporting which you claims are "just facts" when you yourself work for one of the biggest media corporations -- Time Warner Cable, is an obvious conflict of interest.

Also, in the interest of full disclosure to support your assertion that you are a “true friend” of middle class would you like to disclose on your show or on your website the details of your contract with CNN? The middle class would like to know what share their "best friend" takes from the big pie, the big corporations makes at the expense of middle class.

1940 - 42% of US high school grads went on to study science/math in college. 1960 - 38%; 1980 - 35%; 1990 - 26%; 2000 - 15%; 2005 - 11%. But, during this period, the number of students enrolled in science/math programs have remained constant or have increased. And, American competitiveness/technolgical superiority has undoubtedly increased. How's that possible? Obviously, students from abroad - including India and China (the very same countries that have been the subject of hate mongering by guys like Dobbs) - have come in, filled the gap and worked towards keeping America on the top.

Some more food for thought - Some tens of hundreds of cotton/sugarcane farmers in India have committed suicide in the last decade (after India threw open her doors to the globalization forces). This is because, agriculture in the west is so many times more efficient than the largely human/animal powered intensive agriculture practiced in India. That has led to produce from the west being cheaper than that from local farms. And, these small land owners commit suicide, unable to bear the mounting loans. Globalization is a two-edged sword - it is not all rosy for India. Even there (as in the west), some sectors benefit and others do not. It is the dynamics of competitive advantage at play.

Prior to this post, I was not a big fan of Lou, but I did not have any particular loathing for him either. But after reading some of the insightful comments on both sides of this debate, I increasingly feel that the "bloviating" Lou Dobbs is much more similar to George Bush (against who Lou rants every day) than I thought.

In Lou's mind, "you are either with me or against me". I am the good guy and those who disagree, are the bad guys. I am right you are wrong. I know everything and you know nothing.

Be wary of anyone who is so certain of his ideas and views and who doesn't cede the other side even an inch. There is something very wrong with Lou...Dear readers, Remember the lessons learned from Dubya?

Dear Mr. Dobbs:

As an American citizen, I applaud your effort to stand up for Middle Class America. As someone who works hard to support myself and my family, I thank you for advocating my interest. Unfortunately, I find your take on the issue of China to be unfair and unbalanced.

While there are many things about China and the Chinese government that I find "broken" and need to be addressed urgently, you seem to depict China as a monolithic entity that is out to destroy America. This is untrue. While there are hardliners and bad elements in China, most Chinese people are decent and hardworking people just like most American people. While many Middle-Class Americans are suffering because of job losses, millions ordinary Chinese people are also suffering as they get laid off from their life-long jobs into a horrifying world with no safety-nets - no unemployment insurance, no health insurance.

I would hope that in your discussions about China, you would also show to your audience the plight of the ordinary Chinese people in China. I believe this would not only help your audience become more informed as to the reality, but also help make your show more balanced.

In order to understand Lou Dobbs' arguments you need to understand the person's previous arguments . He is now currently preaching immigration "reforms" just because this is today's hot topic.

If one could remember, during the recession time ( 2001,2002 and early 2003) , he used to daily read out a long list of corporate layoffs and how each company is outsourcing jobs to other countries . At the end of program , a list of companies -that outsourced their jobs - scrolled for a minute or so on the screen.
If you had watched the program and his analysis of job market , you would have come to conclusion that the next day your job will be lost.
But when the economy improved , Lou Dobbs' message lost steam and noting this he immediately changed his message and jumped on Immigration bandwagon . Right now , this is a hot subject and he does not want to be left out .

Another example of such "ideal-jumping" is his war with China . Previously every day he used to bash the goverments - both of US and China for a long period of time . But as time changed and people no longer were interested - atleast majority of his viewers - this ideal has taken a back burner , for better in this case.

Like the politicians who shift their stand with popular opinions , Lou Dobbs shifts his ideals every now and then.Yesterday it was MNCs and China , today it is Illegal immigration and tomorrow it is going to be anything that people like to see.Once the immigration bill is passed and people see a wall in the border , this guy will run out of material and he will jump to the next issue. Also ,dont forget his stand of with Bill Clinton and NAFTA and how he moved the subject out of his message .

Sir , what i am trying to conclude is that Lou Dobss and his messages are just a summary of the problems that we face in our daily life and his opinions are reflected as solutions . Today we are facing immigration crisis and he is preaching his opinion as the solution to just grab your attention . He is not a journalist but a politician with a show .

I do agree with Lou on some of the things he says about border security etc., But offshoring ... and all that he should not even touch the discussions, he is doing all that with passion and because Corporate America is shedding jobs to offshoring, but how many people are effected, I am in a IT consulting business, all the Programmers demand so much of salary that the companies cannot afford to pay. My question, why pay a programmer $100 per hour salary, I agree with the corporation to offshore the work. It is effecting me also, it is the trend which is effecting every one, the free market works. Lou talks about the free market but to his own interest. Talking about the poor programmers work in India, China and elsewhere and probably earn few billions for their country over 12 - 24 months time frame, but pay back with just one order of Boeing ... I agree with you that illegal immigration is not the right course for the country. The big corporations with their millions of lobbying dollars will stop any true reform from taking place.

However, I don't think cheap labor from Mexico is completely to blame for low wages in labor-intensive industries such as construction. The problem(or blessing to some) with the low-end manufacturing and construction sector is that they can be replaced by advanced technology. That means labor intensive occupations be lost to foreign labors or technology.

As the American society transforms into a more automated, technology intensive model, blue-collar workers are left underserved and undertrained. There is simply not enough debate about this issue. Lou Dobbs does have a legitimate concern about the working Americans' plight. But he found the wrong answer, by blaming everything on the illegal immigrants.

The much bigger threat to America is the outsourcing of high tech jobs to India and China. These jobs are the future and Corporate America is robbing us of it.

It is ironic that those who want to protect America will bring about its demise by making it less competitive and less desirable for ambitious and entrepreneurial people to emigrate to. Lou Dobbs is a disgrace to all people who love the idea of America - a land of opportunity and hope - and a friend only to those who think that they make themselves better off by denying others the opportunity to expand the size of the pie available to all.

My problem isn't with Illegals taking farming or construction jobs...I'm fairly well off and couldn't care less. Heck, I fail to even see how that hurts us. HOWEVER, I DO see what Illegal Mexican immigrants have done to my small NJ town.

Three of my relatives, plus myself, have had our cars totaled by mexicans who plowed into us and wrecked our cars. They had no insurance. They worked on a local farm. They livedin a house that the farmers built for them in a neighboring community. They had no Driver's license and no insurance.

Crime has also become a serious problem as MS13 has moved into our town and now shootings are a regular occurence. Gangs have taken over large sections of the town at night and many people who once went to the local park can no longer go there. The cops are even afraid to patrol the more dangerous areas.

I own a small business. Over the past few years, I've watched as most of my clientele has gone from white/black to Mexican. Which isn't bad (Money is money) but unfortunately, they cannot speak English and only communicate with me in gestures and grunts. Since I do know a couple other languages (French and German) I have been able to pick up enough Spanish to conduct business with them, but speaking as an American, I just don't understand why they feel they don't need to learn English.

Call me racist if you want, but I have a serious problem with illegals who are not properly assimilated. Especially when LEGAL immigrants are required to learn English...and our laws.

I suppose all of you "rich folk" posting here in defense of this article live in some ritzy, glamorous condo overlooking an azure blue lake and cloudless sky...because you obviously never took a peak at the farming towns that have been ravaged by ungrateful, unrespectful, destructive illegal immigrants.

It just amazes me how the truth is in plain site. If Steve Hamm would visit some of the towns these illegal immigrants are in he or you all will see there is an alarming problem.

I myself have spanish blood when New Spain was between Mexico and Texas and consider myself half hispanic. But if you go to Tennessee, Georgia, New Jersey, etc go to those cities see the visiual problem. There is an explosion of illegal persons in America where many actually are not just breaking the immigration law to work.

I have heard some people of my race get out rage that the police ask about their citizenship. Then accuse the police of being a racist or profiling. Well, if I was stopped for any reason and was asked certain question about my status. As an American its not hard to prove your status.

My problem with Lou Dobbs is he cries wolf over free trade; but yet he's afraid to offer real alternatives. If we were to implement tariffs or other protectionist barriers, the real people that will be hurt will us, the middle class, not the rich, like Lou Dobbs, who rake in $10 million / year. If Lou Dobbs truly believes what he says, he would donate his money to the causes he claims to believe. Lou Dobbs is a hypocrite. Those million-dollar athletes aren't hypocrites in - they aren't railing against free trade while pulling in millions. Lou Dobbs is. I am in the middle class, and I think Dobbs is right about immigration, but he's completely wrong on free trade. If we do what Dobbs says, inflation will go up, unemployment will rise, and the middle class will be worse off.

Lou Dobbs has the wrong proposal to a real problem with trade imbalance. He believes that protectionism is the answer. It is NOT.

The true answer to the problem is a correction to the way Americans spend. It has been the basic US economic policy to encourage consumer spending at all cost.

The out-of-control credit card and mortgage markets have fueled this incredible spending spree for 15 years. Americans are way too comfortable spending borrowed money that must be paid back someday(believe it or not). The trade deficit represents the size of the loan that Americans have spent.

The market forces will reverse this trend by limiting credits to borrowers, insisting that they must prove their ability to pay back the loans. It is already happening, without government intervension. We will see the trade deficit shrink as consumer spending tanks, resulting in a recession.

The whole main idea of Dobbs' show is for Americans to be independent thinkers on all issues.

We all have the right to speak, but we also have the right to make our own decisions. That is the beauty of the United States and democracy. I appreciate the fact that someone actually tries to show all sides and lets me think it out. This is what Dobbs tries to do. If I don't investigate further, then it is my own fault. At least, he makes the American public aware of the issues at hand. The politicians are hoping that we are to busy to look, read, listen and think. Yes, I am talking about the hard working middle class who are trying to keep afloat.

Recent purchase of tankers from Airbus by US airforce is a big issue for him and he is lobbying hard for Boeing. I heard that Lou is going to run for Governor in NJ. I live in NJ and it would be a worst day in my life if he wins as Governor. We had and still have only about 4% of world populace, but there was a time, not long ago, roughly 40 years give or take, that we were the world's largest creditor and exporter, not the world's largest debtor with an economy in the tank. Lou Dobbs should know the facts completely before blasting at the employers who hire h1bs'. In the early 2000s, many US employers went to India (especially Bangalore and Hyderabad) in search of talent. Why? Because they could not find enough talent in US. And that is what even Bill Gates says. Lou Dobbs reads the scripts that are in front and thinks that he is the only loyal American. What did he do to society? It's people like Bill Gates who actually have done something to the society and he clearly knows that Indian contribution to the success of Microsoft is enormous.

I used to watch Lou Dobbs a lot. Every day it used to only get funnier. A fake style of news making trying to show people how he cares about Americans. All his facts are biased (In a way Fox News is for republicans. Or CNN is for democrats). He hides important facts about how the low wage illegal immigrants are exploited and made use of his own americans. He fails to mention the value intelligent immigrants have added to this country. (From India, China and the rest of the world).
I am sure all the money he has, he must be investing that into the huge corporations on the wall street. (Who he pretends to be against) All these biggies on the wall street are on the lookout for cheap IT labor in India. The rates for indian IT labor has fallen too low (As low as $10 per hour).

Just look at what that idiot ehferault posted a mere two years ago about how GM, Chrysler, and Ford so badly need foreign markets.... Tell me how that worked out now that those companies have tanked! Globalism has totally trashed the american industrial/manufacturing base and the scientific/engineering base is sinking so fast you might as well consider it gone. The short-term players in gov't and corporations are laughing at us from the tops of thier money piles. Don't fret over it though, the american dollar is set to tumble next, then the US will be reduced to a pathetic has-been bully that no one will listen to. Lou Dobbs started out in CNN as an ECONOMY or BUSINESS expert, but he has decided to blame everything that is wrong in this country to illegals. Okay, they're breaking the law, but breaking this law does not merit treating these people this way. There should be a comprehensive immigration law, and not treat them as "illegal". The burden of illegal immigration and healthcare is NOTHING / PENNIES compared to the Wall Street bailout, the car maker bailout, and the trillions and trillions of dollars spent on wars that are truly ILLEGAL according the International Law. Having Mexicans send $200 dollars to their loved one in Mexico is nothing compared the profit made by weaponry companies and wall street, investing their money in this. Lou Dobbs SHOULD know this and instead he deliberately decides to brainwash less educated americans that watch his show, although he went to college (I suppose). That is what makes him a malicious, xenophobic, and evil man.

The problem is that Dobbs blames India, China, Mexico, and his hated poor Mexican undocumented immigrants INSTEAD of blaming the CEO's who make these decisions. If he really studied Business and Economics he should instead report about those moves INSTEAD of looking at the bottom of the pyramid. The US is basically suffering what every economy in the world has been complaining since the beginning of the 20th century. Welcome to reality.

I agree with other posters, the fault lies with the business owners, from landscaping companies all the way up to CEO. If companies valued work more, then we would not be in this mess... Instead companies try to pay as little as possible... If companies paid fair wage then Americns would be attracted to the work... If companies pay $5/hour then the gov't.. therefore American citizens are left to pick up the pieces... which in effect is a corp subsidy... the Federal gov't spends at least $100 million/ year to investigate h1b abuse so corps can have cheap foreign labor... i don't know a bout you but that i not how i want my tax money spent

The fault lies with the people that don't understand that business owners have no choices. You don't find Americans wanting to do landscaping, or working in kitchens, or doing the sh*t work that many migrant workers are doing.

Dobbs is racist and hypocrite. While he pulls in 10 million a year salary and millions more with his anti-democratic rhetoric, poor people are too busy trying to get by to defend themselves.
