    Founder and President, 800-CEO-READ

Jack Covert founded 800-CEO-READ in 1984 with a very specific goal — market business books directly to businesses. Today, 800-CEO-READ is America's leading direct supplier of business literature to more than 10,000 corporate and organizational clients nationwide.

Covert is a frequently quoted expert on business books and has been interviewed by CNN, Business Week, Fortune, Inc., and numerous major daily newspapers. His company's monthly Top 25 list of bestselling business books is a frequently cited standard and is distributed to more than 600 newspapers via Knight Ridder/Tribune News Service. "Jack Covert 'gets' what CEO's want/need to read . . . better than anyone in the business," says author and business expert Tom Peters. "His sense for what's r-e-a-l-l-y important (vs. the pop idea of the moment) is matchless."

Covert has become well-known in the world of business book publishing for his championship of promising books that he helped turn into national bestsellers, such as "The Goal," and "Zapp!" Covert still likes to spot a hit before anyone else does, and publishes The Gazette, a catalog highlighting tomorrow's best sellers, three times a year. "Jack is not simply a bookseller — he's a tracker and a prophet," says former Doubleday/Currency editor Harriet Rubin.

A former advertising sales executive and record store owner, Covert built 800-CEO-READ (formerly known as Schwartz Business Books) with a hands-on approach. He filled up his car trunk with business books and made cold calls to local corporations. That personalized style served 800-CEO-READ well. While the back of the car has given way to direct marketing via phone, mail and the Internet, that service-oriented, "high-touch" approach is still the backbone of the company.
