Before joining BusinessWeek in May 2000, Der Hovanesian covered Wall Street and the money management industry for both Dow Jones and the Knight-Ridder newspaper group. Her work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, and the business pages of many major newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Boston Globe, and San Jose Mercury News. She's acted as both markets and investments editor and banking and finance editor at BusinessWeek and has covered business news for more than 15 years. Der Hovanesian received her master's degree in economics from California State University in San Francisco, following an undergraduate degree in journalism. She also received a scholarship to the Institute for Political Journalism at Georgetown University. Der Hovanesian has earned recognition and awards for her work from the Associated Press' News Executive Council, The Society of Professional Journalists, The New York Press Club, and the Newswoman's Club of New York.
