The Year in Illustrations

Julia Rothman, Bloomberg Businessweek‘s resident Seven Days artist, takes a moment to reflect on 2012, with a collage of the illustrations she produces every Tuesday for the magazine. The biggest challenge, she says, is that “I have always been envious of people who enjoy doing crosswords, so I like to think of the calendar as my visual crossword puzzle. Sometimes the events are harder to illustrate (Brazil’s GDP), but other times I have a lot to work with (North American Wife-Carrying Championships).” As for a favorite part of the job: “In the beginning I was very nervous about trying to capture the likeness of personalities, but now I have embraced it and take every opportunity to draw these important people. I now have incredible recognition abilities for world leaders, corrupt bankers, and all the members of the Federal Open Market Committee.”
