Aquaculture aid grant checks mailed to La. farmers

Louisiana's Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner says more than 50 crawfish, catfish and other aquaculture farmers should have checks to help make up for high feed costs in 2009.

Commissioner Mike Strain said Monday that checks for the $480,000 federal grant program were mailed out on Valentine's Day.

The money is going to catfish, turtle, baitfish, tilapia and crawfish farmers for whom feed costs added up to at least one-quarter of total production costs.
