Rhode Island is due to receive more than $15.6 million in federal funds for unemployment aid.
The U.S. Department of Labor on Monday announced the release of the funding.
U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis says the state qualified for the remaining two thirds of its share of funding by giving added benefits to unemployed workers with family and by extending eligibility to people who leave work for family reasons.
The state Department of Labor and Training can use the money to run its unemployment insurance program or for payment of unemployment benefits.
