SCHAUMBURG, Ill.
Motorola Inc. on Tuesday signaled its intention to further expand into the business of modernizing the communications systems of public safety agencies.
Motorola, a maker of products ranging from wireless devices to set-top boxes, said its products would link older systems with a mobile broadband network for faster and more seamless communication between personnel in the field and command centers.
Its products would offer high-speed wireless Internet access, link private and public networks and work with two-way radio systems. They would merge voice, data, records and video.
"With stronger networks and greater capabilities, public safety agencies can supplement voice with rich data and video content to empower first responders with the best information when and where it matters most to best serve and protect their communities," the company said in a statement.
Shares of Motorola, based in Schaumburg, Ill., rose 3 cents to $6.88 in afternoon trading.
