NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of some top tools and appliances companies were down at the close of trading:

General Electric Co. fell $.33 or 1.5 percent, to $21.70.

Snap-On fell $.60 or .8 percent, to $75.25.

Stanley Works fell $1.02 or 1.5 percent, to $69.25.

Whirlpool Corp. fell $.74 or .9 percent, to $86.31.
