NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of some top tools and appliances companies were mixed at the close of trading:

General Electric Co. rose $.27 or 1.2 percent, to $22.91.

Snap-On rose $.61 or .8 percent, to $74.25.

Stanley Works fell $3.20 or 4.4 percent, to $69.12.

Whirlpool Corp. rose $2.26 or 2.7 percent, to $87.11.
