September Auto Sales: Hyundai

COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) — Hyundai Motor America said Tuesday that U.S. vehicle sales rose 15.3 percent in September, as rising sales of its Elantra sedan overcame a decline in its other big seller, the Sonata.

BY THE NUMBERS: Hyundai sold 660,025 vehicles last month, up from 52,051 a year earlier.

TOP SELLERS: The company sold 18,305 Elantras, up 27.2 percent from 14,386 a year earlier. Sales of the Sonata fell 4.7 percent to 17,332, from 18,181 a year ago.

HOT MODELS: Hyundai sold 3,020 of its new Veloster model, more than triple the number sold in September 2011, bringing 2012 sales of the compact car to 28,338.
