Ahold may sell stake in Nordic ICA supermarkets
AMSTERDAM (AP) — Royal Ahold NV, the Dutch operator of supermarkets in the U.S. and Europe, says it is considering selling its 60 percent stake in Scandinavian retailer ICA.
ICA is the biggest food retailer in Sweden, and also operates "Rimi" stores in Norway and the Baltics. It had sales of Swedish kronor 95.2 billion ($14.2 billion) in 2011.
Ahold jointly controls ICA with Sweden's Hakon Invest AB.
Ahold said Tuesday they plan to take at least six months to review options for the business, including a sale or initial public offering of shares.
