WILLIAM T. ESREY

Who says you can't buy anything with a dime anymore? Not WILLIAM T. ESREY, 56, the chairman and CEO of Sprint. Thanks to its 10 cents-a-minute offer, the $14.1 billion company saw long-distance-call volumes soar 19%, outpacing MCI and AT&T. Helped also by higher customer satisfaction ratings than its big rivals, Sprint's earnings, excluding special charges, should jump 25%, to $1.25 billion.
