U.S. Initial Jobless Claims Rise Less Than Forecast Play

March 21 (Bloomberg) -- Applications for U.S. jobless benefits increased by 2,000, fewer than forecast, to 336,000 in the week ended March 16, Labor Department figures showed today. Economists projected 340,000 claims, according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg survey. The monthly average, which smoothes the week-to-week volatility, dropped to the lowest level since February 2008. Sara Eisen and Betty Liu report on Bloomberg Television's "In the Loop."
