San Francisco Ranked-Choice Voting System Play

(Corrects to remove reference that process was phased in for offices below mayor.) Aug. 5 (Bloomberg) -- San Francisco Mayoral Candidate David Chiu, a Democrat who travels the city with his campaign mascot "Chiu-bacca," a costumed mascot dressed as the Star Wars character Chewbacca, talks with Bloomberg's Alison Vekshin about the ranked-choice voting system. The process was first used in San Francisco elections in the Board of Supervisors' race in 2004 and in 2007 to select a mayor. It combines a primary, general election and a runoff to cut costs.
