I came across this posting, at www.musingmoney.com "Penny pinching with Vonage," about switching to an internet telephone service. I'm considering the same move, but haven't taken the plunge yet. Any other views on such services?

I have Vonage and love it. The great prices are the obvious attraction and I get 500 minutes of ong distance with the phone line and extra features for less than the cost of a landline from my bell carrier in Los Angeles.
The one downside is the delay in conversations. Some of my friends find it annoying and we occassionally talk over each other. It's not a line I would want to use for business calls when I work from home.

I've had Vonage for several months now, as my only phone line, and I'm pretty happy with it. Phone quality is fine, I don't have any delay or other issues that plagued early versions of Internet telephony. Some warnings: Live customer service is terrible; thankfully you can do most things right on the web interface. And when I'm connected to the office network from home, incoming phone calls knock me off the system. I also had a long wait for my number to be transferred, but Vonage credited me with an extra month of service to compensate. So far, the savings are worth the switch.

Vonage is a great service. Let's see: TWICE the functionality as baby bells, at HALF the price. Yeah, that's a tough decision...
