Sprint: Palm Pre Ships Nationwide June 6

In a surprise announcement, likely forced because the news was slipping out through the sieve that is the Internet, Sprint said today the long awaited Palm Pre would ship on Saturday, June 6. In line with expectations, the phone will cost $200, though that requires a two-year contract and mailing in for a $100 rebate. The Pre will be available in Sprint stores and at Best Buy, Radio Shack, and some Wal-Mart stores, as well as online from sprint.com.
Sprint did not announce details of pricing plans, but said it would use Sprint’s “value-oriented Everything Data plans that offer savings of up to $1,430 over two years vs. comparable AT&T and Verizon plans for smartphones and PDAs.” In a footnote, Sprint said that comparison was to unlimited minute plans with messaging bundles and navigation services on AT&T and Verizon. It’s going to take some arithmetic to figure out just what that means.
Sprint also announced that the wireless Touchstone charger for the Pre would be available separately for $70. A standard micro-USB corded charger is included.
