When President Barack Obama won his argument to continue carrying a BlackBerry, there was a lot of speculation, based on not much of anything, that aides were using the term “BlackBerry” generically and his mobile device would in fact be a Windows Mobile-based Sectera Edge.
An Associated Press photo released yesterday (and not reproduced here because of rights issues) puts the matter to rest. The device the President is carrying is definitely a Research In Motion BlackBerry, probably an 8800 series.
Obama probably keeps a Sectera Edge nearby when he’s away from the White House because the Edge, unlike the BlackBerry, can be used for classified voice and data communications. But I’m betting he lets an aide carry the bulking device for him.
