Chipmaker Qualcomm has been quietly plugging away over the past couple of years trying to get its MediaFlo TV solution on more cellular phones. It has struck deals with Verizon and AT&T but the MediaFlo subscription service hasn’t received a lot of attention.
That could change soon under a deal announced at the Consumer Electronics Show with Audiovox to sell kits that can be installed in cars to stream 25 channels of programming to people on the go.
While the two companies are still working out details, Audiovox executives believe the kits and install work would cost less than $500, with a monthly MediaFlo subcription of under $20. Look for the first installations to begin sometime in late summer.
