Twitter: Growing Business Use?

I get a steady stream of emails from Twitter notifying me that someone has started following my posts (swildstrom, if you’re interested) on the microblogging service. I’m never sure just why people choose to follow my posts, but lately I have been noticing that more and more of the requests are coming from what are clearly business interests, not random individuals.Just today, for example, I received follow notifications from users named RedHatNews and JBossNews, suggesting interest in me in the open source community.
A lot of the recent followers seem to be PR people, and this makes a lot of sense. Their clients want to know when I write about them, and I try to tweet whenever my blog posts or articles appear on line. It’s a relatively easy way to track my activity.
I’m wondering if this sort of commercial use represents a business opportunity for Twitter, which has yet to find a way to translate its growing and sometimes fanatical user base into a revenue stream. Nothing immediately springs to mind, but I suspect there’s a revenue possibility in there somewhere.
