Remember we told you that T-Mobile USA is prepping an iTunes-like App Store? Back then, T-Mobile wouldn’t confirm this assertion. But it turns out we were spot on.
Today, T-Mobile announced it’s launching a new program for mobile developers and provided some details on its upcoming store. Here are the details: Apparently, “T-Mobile devPartner Community model will enable developers to market their apps directly via the carrier’s deck, with software creators earning at least 50 percent of revenues and possibly earning as much as 70 percent, as well as the right to determine their own premium download pricing.”
On the surface of it, it appears that T-Mobile may not offer as good a deal for developers as Apple, which allows programmers to keep 70% of their revenues. It’s also not clear if T-Mobile will allow developers to distribute free, ads-supported applications. Well, it looks like we’ll be getting the answers to these questions sooner rather than later: The store should launch this month.
