Just how much downloading is happening through the new Apple App Store? One developer, uLocate, says users are activating its Where application at a rate of 100 per second at peak. And Where is not even in the top-10 most popular free or paid applications in the store.
Just based on this one statistics, I’d expect Apple to blow way past analysts’ estimates of downloading through the store. A few weeks ago, analyst Gene Munster estimated that Apple and third-party developers would make $1.2 billion if each of the 85 million iPhone and iPod Touch owners spent $15 during 2009. Well, if paid applications are selling at the rate that Where is getting downloaded at, that may very well be achievable. And perhaps Apple will do even better.
