Yahoo Resignation Template

Posted by: Catherine Holahan on June 12, 2008

Despite Microsoft’s announcement that it is no longer interested in taking over Yahoo, the steady exodus of Yahoo’s best and most vocal managers continues.

On June 12, Yahoo’s “SQL Guru” and popular blogger Jeremy Zawodny announced he was leaving the company . His blog post came on the same day that JR Conlin, a leader of Yahoo’s developer network, wrote his goodbye entry .

Despite what I’m sure are heartfelt and difficult messages, the Yahoo exit blogs are starting to sound the same. Perhaps it’s the sheer number of public goodbye notes that has lead to the seeming repetition. Perhaps it’s because many of those leaving do seem genuinely sad to go and choose to express it in similar fashion.

But I feel as though there are certain statements every Yahoo employee leaving during this difficult time for Yang and Co. must make.

So, for any other Yahoo bloggers struggling to say goodbye, here’s the template:

In the next few weeks I won’t be (VERB) through the halls, or (VERB) my purple and yellow (NOUN). After (LENGTH OF TIME) and a (POSITIVE ADJECTIVE) experience, I am leaving Yahoo.

I want to make clear that my decision was not related to either Microsoft or Carl Icahn’s takeover attempts. I believe in Yahoo. It is a (FAVORABLE ADJECTIVE) company with a lot of future potential. I believe that Yahoo will continue to do well. My decision was a (NEGATIVE ADJECTIVE) one.

My last day here is (DATE). After which, I will take (LENGTH OF TIME) to (VERB) (NOUN) and then begin the next chapter of my career. I can’t reveal what that is yet. Stay Tuned. But I am excited for the future exploring (VAGUE REFERENCE TO NEW STARTUP MISSION).

I will miss so many people. Too many to name here. (LIST OF NAMES).

There is a lot I will miss about being a Yahoo too. The (POSITIVE ADJECTIVE) food, the free coffee, and above all the (LARGE NUMBER) of (POSITIVE ADJECTIVE), smart people who bleed purple and yellow each day.

My new email address is (NAME) @ (Non YAHOO EMAIL) dot com.
By the way, (NAME) (BLOG LINK) is leaving as well.

Saying goodbye is really tough eh, with this template it would be easy then. Haha. I felt bad though that a lot are leaving Yahoo.

Yahoo has transformed itself from a dot.com dinosaur into a dot.com zombie. Its destiny is no longer controlled by its management. If you were a bright new economy wannabee, would you want to work at a dot.com zombie or would you want to push the eject button at a time when the yahoo brand on your resume still has some cache?
