Yes, I have no idea what such games would look like, either. But rumor has it that Steve Jobs & Co. is interested in creating a video game around the Beatles music catalogue. And that this game may have mobile versions.
According to a Financial Times report, Apple and another Beatles music owner, EMI, are currently in discussions with MTV Games, Activision and a number of wireless carriers. My bet, however, is on Electronic Arts, which has been a close collaborator of Apple’s on iPhone games. But whoever comes out with a Beatles game is almost assured instant success. FT predicts that the title could even “sway a battle between Activision and Electronic Arts.”
What I wonder about is, what kind of a game the music would work with. I just can’t imagine one of Beatles’ mellow strummings for peace gracing a first-shooter. You pull the trigger, and “Strawberry Feilds” comes on? No, that’s not going to work.
What about casual games? I can’t see Beatles’ ballads working well with those short games, either. Imagine playing “Bejeweled” or “Tetris” to annoying repetitions of chords from “Baby It’s You.” When you have lost, perhaps “Yesterday” comes on, with its lyrics, “Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play…”
