Earth Day: Unplug Your Cell Phone
Posted by: Olga Kharif on April 16, 2008
According to cell-phone maker Nokia, if we were all to unplug our phones as soon as they are charged, we would do Earth some good. If only 10% of the world’s mobile phone users unplugged their chargers from the power supply once the battery is full, we could save enough energy to power 65,000 homes a year. Wow.
Now we just need cell-phone makers to come out with phones that let users know, by beeping or otherwise, that they are fully charged. Nokia, for one, recently launched its first mobile phone to include alerts that remind people to unplug the charger once the battery is full. I hope to see more cell-phone makers come out with this simple application in the coming months.
