UPDATE—This product is now shipping. Watch for a review of the HP MediaSmart Home Server in an upcoming issue of BusinessWeek, or on the TechMaven page.
Folks waiting for Microsoft’s much anticipated windows Home Server are going to have to wait a while longer.
Engadget reported today that Hewlett Packard was delaying shipment of its MediaSmart Home server for “70 to 100 days” because Microsoft wants to do additional work on the software.
HP confirmed the delay today, without being specific about the timing. A spokesperson for HP’s Personal Systems Group says: “HP has decided to take advantage of the usability enhancements that Microsoft will release for Windows Home Server…. While both the hardware and software are great products as they now stand, the enhancements Microsoft is planning will improve the out-of-box experience and enable all consumers, even those who are not very tech-savvy, to have a satisfying experience with the product.
